Yogi Baba Prem's journey to yoga began as a small child. He frequently would have mystical visions of yogis and teacher's, eventually this began to manifest as he would spontaneously move into yoga postures. He eventually began to search, seeking to understand the purpose of these events within his life. His quest eventually led to his study of yoga. Universal Yoga and the upcoming Florida Vedic Institute was founded by Yogi Baba Premacharya. He is one of only a few westerners to be recognized in the traditional systems from India. In 2010, he received the title Yogacharya by Acharya Sri Vamadeva Shastri (Dr. David Frawley) and also was recognized as an Acharya by his Guru Maha Avatar Babaji. He is one of the few westerners to have received the title of Veda Kovid and then Veda Visharada in the traditional Gurukual system, he has studied with renowned Vedacharya, Acharya Sri Vamadeva Shastri. He graduated from the United Yoga Institute (under the guidance of Babaji Maharaj) with a diploma in Karma, Bhakti, Hatha, Raja and Kundalini yoga systems. He was accepted by Mahavatar Babaji as his student (shishya), after being declared a master of Shakti and Naad Yoga systems by Babaji Maharaj, whom he studied with for many years. His Vedic teacher (Vedacharya) is Sri Pandit Vamadeva Shastri (David Frawley). "Baba Prem is one of the best trained and most articulate spokesmen of Hindu Dharma born in the West.
